Big Bang flies to America for comeback MV filming

Big Bang’s album is scheduled to drop in a couple of weeks, but the group is already kicking into high gear for their long awaited comeback.
They’re currently in the United States, and plan to stay a week to film their MV, after which they’ll be returning to Korea to perform at Seoul Olympic Park Stadium from February 25th to 27th. The total cost of the MV wasn’t given, but sources say that it’ll cost the company a hefty sum of money.
Why is the MV being filmed in the United States? The group apparently wants a “foreign influence” to their video – I’ll leave that up to the fans to imagine!
Looks as if YG Entertainment is sparing no expense for the group’s comeback – who’s excited?

Big Bang records biggest sales day for UNIQLO

We knew the Big Bang T-shirts for Japanese apparel company UNIQLO were popular when we reported that the T-shirts sold out within 15 minutes of going on sale on February 5th but now an Oricon.jp article states that it was also the best sales day and volume in the history of UNIQLO.
The Harajuku UNIQLO store was decorated with special Big Bang material and one floor was specifically dedicated to the group as well. More than 1,200 people were in line for the Harajuku store opening.
Starting in May, Big Bang’s Love & Pain Tour will make stops in Osaka, Chiba, and Nagoya for a total of seven concerts. The tour is expected to bring in a 90,000 member audience.
It seems the group is starting to cause a Big Bang in Japan.

G-Dragon feels uncomfortable when he gets called a ‘genius’

Big Bang’s leader G-Dragon is, without a doubt, one of the hottest icons of Korean pop culture today. Possessing an abundance of skills and talents, the boy also owns a modern-day Midas touch, as everything he creates immediately becomes a coveted trend by the next day.
Though he’s only 23 years old, he’s managed to garner enough experience to be praised by both pop culture critics and industry representatives as ‘the musician whose future they anticipate the most’.
Considering all his accomplishments, he sounds like an intimidating figure – but when the interviewer met the golden boy, G-Dragon proved to be a thoughtful, modest soul who laughed shyly and had a tendency to bite his lips when in thought.
That is, until the topic of music came up.
G-Dragon’s eyes lit up with anticipation when the reporter observed, “The way you express your reality through your raps is quite meaningful.
G-Dragon responded, “I wanted to show my true self, not how I wanted to be seen by others.  Stories full of my own thoughts and experiences are what I wanted to share.  Just very freely and comfortably, I wanted to say ‘this is who I am.’  As Big Bang’s leader, I’m under the pressure to lead the group, but recently, I’ve had a lot of fun just enjoying myself.  Music has to be enjoyed, not regarded as work.  If you’re squeezed under the pressure of work, it’s difficult to produce good music.  Regardless, as I experienced different things, I was able to organize a bit of my thoughts, as well as come up with some things to say.”

At the mention of ‘experiencing different things,’ the reporter asked him to elaborate.  “I’ve earned a lot of compliments, but I also think I’ve received a lot of hateful replies as well.  At the time, I was extremely hurt and placed in a difficult situation.”

G-Dragon’s first solo concert came under fire for sexually suggestive content, and the reporter inquired how the star managed to overcome the painful experience.
He explained, “What’s shown on stage is ultimately up to the artist. The situation arose because of me, so I needed to take responsibility of it.  There’s no need to say this or that through words or talk, all that is needed is to present better music next time.”
The reporter mused, “You sound like a person who has reached nirvana.”
G-Dragon responded, “My seniors were a great source of strength, and time helped in healing.  I also heard ever since I was little that I seemed older than I looked.”
The reporter then asked G-Dragon to pick a track from GD&TOP’s album which he felt best represented him at this time.
“I think it’s ‘High High‘,” he said. “I stand on stage as a singer, but the stage is not a job to me.  When I go on stage, I go crazy and play.  It makes me feel as if I’ve returned to the ‘Kid Roo’Ra‘ stage, dancing around like that.”
(For reference, when G-Dragon was seven years old, he made his first TV debut by parodying the popular group ‘Roo’Ra‘ under the nickname ‘Kid Roo’Ra.’  At 13, he joined YG Entertainment.)
G-Dragon then elaborated on the pressures which come with high praise and expectations. “I once read that someone called me a ‘genius,’ but that’s a misunderstanding.  It’s uncomfortable, and it puts a lot of pressure on me when people see me like that. I learned about music at an earlier age than most, and through my own efforts, came across good luck and opportunity; that’s all it is. I might’ve shined more because there weren’t many like me then.”
The reporter then asked about Big Bang’s comeback, and what fans should look forward to.
I’d like for you to anticipate a bigger Big Bang,” said G-Dragon. “We’re planning to show cool, rock-influenced songs. Up until ‘Red Sunset,’ we might’ve looked like kids, but this latest release will show how much more manlier we’ve become. Big Bang’s last album earned a lot of love, but we’re hoping to take a bigger shot this time.”
Didn’t they already show the crowd their big shot?  “No,” he replied, “Everything just happened to fall in place, but there was a bit of luck and exaggeration. What we’re worried about is not what we show, but how we live up to the expectations in the back.”
To wrap up the interview, G-Dragon was asked to share one hardship that his celebrity life forces him to endure.
“It’s eating.  I always have to have a stew when I eat, but people look at me weird when I eat like that.  It’s also upsetting that I can’t go to those delicious seolleongtang and stew restaurants as I wish.”

G-Dragon, "Hope through this album, people can feel love"

G-Dragon, the leader of Big Bang (Kwon jiyong, 23) is a national icon of Korea popular culture. Rather than looking like other singers who sing and dance on the stage, he 'plays'. He dances to speak for himself on the stage.

He is also a very distinctive composer for he wrote 'Lies' for BIGBANG and has been participating in the production of their albums which have gained great acclaim in the nation. Many music critics and famous musicians praised him as one of the future most successful singer-composer. For he delivers great style in music and fashion, he always creates trends among the generation. Shimmering with talent and self consciousness, He is just different from an 'idol' singer .

At the end of last year.he released a Duet album 'GDTOP'. His charisma can be seen in songs like 'High High' ,'Knock Out' and 'Oh Yeah' and his lovely side can be felt in songs like 'Don't go home'.

"I have helped writing the rap lyrics and melody. I want to have fun in producing the album and hope through this album, people can feel love." full of confidence and passion, the 23-year-old G-Dragon is going to tell the story of his own.

On the day we met him, we discovered that he is such a shy teenager when he walked down from the stage which is contrary to what we expected. After exchanging greetings, he always bit his lower lip with his upper teeth which was the technique he used to try hiding his embarrassment. However, once we started talking music, his eyes started to shine and he became a very good orator.

R: The 'long time' hard work and suffering are tolerable to you?
A: Meanwhile, many people praised my work but I still have to learn to face and digest criticisms. When it was in the past, I did feel hurt when I was critised'.

R: Since the debut in 2006, BIGBANG has been the centre of the music industry but early last year, you were said to have plagiarised a song from other artists and your solo concert was said to contain sexual elements.
How did you overcome such a torturing time?

A: 'Different people have different comments of me on the stage. It is the fate of a singer. But when it comes to me, it does not really mean a lot. I am responsible to my performances but I don't want to debate with others in words since music will speak for me eventually if I make good music out there.'

R: It seems like your belief is similar to that of a Buddhist. (nirvana: a term in Buddhism which means getting freedom from the endless cycle of personal reincarnations.)

R: You are now 23 years old. If you have to pick a song which resembles your life most. Which one would it be?
A: I think it would be 'High High' as it reminds me when I once stand on the stage, the stage does not belong to me.I will 'play' on the stage for you. Roo'ra had been dancing on the stage as a kid too which I can never forget until now.

(He was 7 when Roo'ra was a popular group and he debuted on TV in a programme called 'Little Roo'ra' as a dancer . After that, he entered YG to be a trainee.)
(Translator's note: Roora was a very popular Korea Hip Hop group)

R:People praise your musical talents and have high expectations on you.
A:Some people say I am a 'genius' which I would regard as a misunderstanding. I am uncomfortable with such kind of attention and I think it is a burden too. I think I am lucky to have the chance to find the own way of my music. I do not know many other friends who have such kind of opportunities.

R: BIGBANG is going to return to the showbiz in February.
A: We can expect a bigger and better appearance of BIGBANG. We will deliver you the kind of rock music with a touch of nature. After 'Sunset Glow', we hope to be more mature and we want the music to be suitable for men to sing while they want to capture the hearts of the women. I want to deliver the right kind of BIGBANG music to you.

R: Haven't you already showed us all of your own kind of music?
A: Not yet.Luckily, everything went well when we were promoting in the past but success is not something which will pop up every now and then. The expectation on us is very important.

R: What are the difficulties that you have encountered when you have chosen to be a celebrity?
A: I will not eat in very popular places. Even if I know some places which offer delicious food, I cannot go there. I am sad about it.

G-Dragon is very Humble & Polite Idol

G-Dragon who has one been labelled as picky and arrogant is actually a 'humble & polite idol'. On the 7th of February, a website has showed video of G-dragon bowing 90 degrees to the people around him in order to greet them.

The fans showed great reponses to them since those are the videos shot by the fans, the quality is not so good. However, we can still spot that after the shooting of TV programme, G-Ddragon is the 1st one to 'bow to greet' others and noted that at that time, he was carrying out his solo activities.

After all of the shooting was over and the announcement of the 1st place of a music chart, all of the featured artists had to be one the stage once again. And at that time, G-Dragon seemed to be not knowing that he could stand straightly for he was greeting others like a robot, especially when he finished the shooting of SBS 'Strong Heart', G-Dragon had at least bowed 30 times to all the directions which really surprised the netizens.
