T-ara’s Hyomin apologizes to Big Bang’s Seungri for speaking informally

T-ara’s Hyomin recently apologized to her senior, Big Bangs Seungri, for speaking informally to him on public broadcast.
She recently wrote on her Twitter, “I was in the middle of watching a broadcast, and that day Seungri and I decided to have fun together by jokingly mocking each other and speaking comfortably, but it’s been bothering me cause it looked like I was talking carelessly.”
Hyomin was in fact talking about scenes from the recently broadcast SBS TV’s “King of Idols”, where the two were playing a water game. Hyomin made comments towards Seungri such as, “This guy’s kinda weird” and “He’s dumb.
Although Hyomin is technically older than Seungri, he is considered her senior as he debuted earlier in the music industry with Big Bang. Hyomin expressed, “We both agreed to do it out of fun, but if it was uncomfortable to watch then I apologize. I hope people do not think badly of it.”

What lesson can the K-pop industry take away from IU and GD&TOP?

Music analyst Hanteo revealed that the top digital songs for January were IU’s “Good Day” and GD&TOP’s “High High“, which ranked first and second respectively.
While these two tracks are of different genres and attract different fanbases, they share something in common – they demonstrate the artists’ grip on their music, and their natural flair for their craft.
IU took charts by storm with her impressive vocal talent, playing up to the music fans’ desire of wanting to hear an artist’s voice ‘as is’. MR removed videos, a popular ‘tool’ amongst fans, allowed listeners to scope IU’s natural voice and talent.
What’s ironic about success is that she secured it in an industry where auto-tune is considered ‘trendy’ and ‘modern’.  IU went back to the roots of music with her famous ‘three high notes’, and many are of the belief that if “Good Day” didn’t feature those high notes, IU wouldn’t have earned the explosive popularity she enjoys today.
Meanwhile, GD&TOP went the complete opposite direction by immersing themselves in the electronic hip hop genre. They debuted as a sub-unit group of Big Bang in order to fully express their personal musical tastes.
Having earned a bit more freedom in both style and music, the unit came up with an interesting blend of club sounds that ‘revolutionized’ the image of idol groups. Instead of strict choreography, the two moved about on stage freely, to the ‘feel of the music.’
T.O.P expressed earlier that they wanted to “break the stereotypes of idols,” and the duo managed to achieve just that.
Though they focused on different aspects, they managed to accomplish their goal of showcasing true musicality. The two broke out of the molds that idols are often enclosed in by performing and creating music that doesn’t restrict their liberties as musicians.

Results from ‘King of Idols’

On February 2nd, SBS aired a special Lunar New Year’s broadcast, King of Idols‘, where top idol stars came together to play various games and select the “King and Queen.” As it turns out, the other idols selected Big Bang’s maknae, Seungri, and After School’s UEE as “King and Queen.”

During the show where idols were able to show off their skills and during games where they could reveal their competitive side, Seungri was able to overcome skilled opponents such as SHINee’s Minho, 2PM’s Chansung and Nichkhun, etc. – to become the best of the guys.

Seungri shed tears as he stated, I was worried about whether I would be accepted by other idol groups, but I’m so thankful that everybody was so welcoming.”

In the female portion for the title of “Queen”, UEE defeated KARA’s Hara and Seungyeon, T-ara’s Hyomin, and others to receive the title.

In the end, ‘King’ Seungri chooses UEE, but UEE dumps Seungri and chooses Jinwoon – putting Seungri in a humiliating situation.

Meanwhile, it was revealed by AGB Nielsen Media Research that ‘King of Idols’ obtained a rating of 10.8% on Lunar New Year Eve, edging competition from KBS’s ‘Idol Health Beauty Contest‘, MBC’s ‘Love Studio‘ and SBS’s ‘Star Blind Date‘ which garnered 8.9%, 4.9% and 5.1% respectively.
